Dear guests,
Our Mauerbienchen on the former border patrol strip, invites you to relax, enjoy nature and learn. A fresh wind tickles your nose in the outdoor classroom. Here in the meadow, you can pick fruits from the scattered fruit trees and have a picnic. You can admire the bee-friendly garden beds planted by our swarm of fellow enthusiasts. Plus, there are all sorts of interesting facts to learn about pollinators and their habitats.

The Mauerbienchen was created by employees of the BERLINER STADTGÜTER GmbH as part of the „Mitschwärmen”, or „ Swarm with Us”, project. With this project we want to make a contribution to the protection of wild bees and other pollinators.

Inventive Wasp Architecture
Many important inventions were inspired by nature. Including paper. In the 19th century, Gottlob Keller observed wasps combining gnawed wood fibers and their spit to build artistic paper nests. This gave Keller the idea of using wood for paper production. In so doing, he solved a big problem, because, until then, paper had been made from rags and these were becoming increasingly scarce.
Creative builders: No other species lives and nests as diversely as wild bees.
Bees like it wild
In order for wild bees to feel really comfortable, they need a safe place to live and enough food from an abundance of flowers from March until October.
Wild bees like things to be a little messy
Some species prefer dead wood for nesting and overwintering, while others favor open sandy soils, wall crevices, or even the dead stems of thistles and other perennials. Colorful meadows with wild herbs are a feast for wild bees. With a good seed mix and a little patience, everyone can do something for the bees. The easiest way to do this is to collect seeds yourself and then sow them in another location.
Everything that flies and crawls
Wherever wild bees live, is a good place to explore nature. In such places you will find a wide variety of animals and plants to discover, including some very rare species.
Almost everything that flutters, flies and crawls ensures that we eat delicious food and stay healthy. For juicy apples, sweet strawberries, or even the occasional carrot, we rely on honeybees, the many hundreds of native wild bee species, as well as beetles, moths, and other insects. A big thank you to the bees and their pollinator entourage for the most beautiful bouquets of flowers.
The honey bee is not a wild bee
Even Stone Age hunters used honey and wax from certain wild bees. Over time, these bees were domesticated. Through selective breeding, humans enhanced desirable traits and diminished less favorable ones. This is how the honey bees we know today came to be. There are hundreds of wild bee species, many of which are solitary, living alone. Wild bees, like their cousins bumblebees, hornets and many types of wasps, live in swarms or colonies.
Don’t be afraid of bee stings
Many people are afraid of bees and other insects. However, most wild bees cannot sting at all. Wasps are carnivorous and use their sting for hunting as well as self-defense. Our fear is a learned behavior. We observe fear of insects in others and mimic it. The more we like someone, the more likely we are to adopt their fears too.

Yaratıcı Yabani Arı Mimarisi
Bir çok önemli icatlar doğadan esinlenmiştir. Bugünkü kullandığımız kağıt bile. Gottlob Keller 19. yüzyılda yabani arıların odun liflerini tükürükleri ile kağıt kovanlara dönüştürdüğünü gözlemlemiştir. Bu gözlem Keller’a odunu kağıt yapımında kullanma ilhamını verir. O ana kadar kağıtlar paçavralardan yapılırdı ve paçavralar giderek kıtlaşıyordu. Bu fikir sayesinde Keller, o zamanın büyük bir problemini çözdü
Yaratıcı Mimarlar
Hiç bir canlı doğada yabani arılar kadar hareketli yaşamaz ya da çeşitli yuva yapamaz.
Arılar dağınık yaşamayı sever
Yabani arıların kendilerini rahat hissetmeleri için, Mart ayından Ekim ayına kadar yaşayacakları güvenli ve bol çiçekli bir yere ihtiyaçları vardır.
Yabani arılar, hayatlarının dağınık olmasından hoşlanırlar.
Yuvalama ve kışlama için bazı türler ölü odunları tercih ederken, diğerleri açık kumlu toprağı, duvarlardaki çatlakları veya deve dikeni ve diğer uzun ömürlü bitkilerin ölü saplarını tercih eder. Yabani otlarla dolu rengarenk çayırlar yabani arılar için adeta bir ziyafettir. İyi bir tohum karışımı ve biraz sabırla herkes arılar için bir şeyler yapabilir. Yardımcı olmanın en kolay yolu, tohum toplayıp başka bir yere ekmektir.
